Privacy Fences in Sacramento, CA
Redwood • Vinyl • Durabond Steel • Chain Link with Privacy Slats
Low Maintenance. Long Lasting. Built for Sacramento.
Your backyard should feel like your own. Whether you want to block the view from a busy street, keep kids and pets safe, or simply enjoy your pool without an audience, a privacy fence is one of the most practical upgrades you can make to your property.
At Fantastic Fence, we install four types of privacy fencing across the greater Sacramento area: redwood, vinyl, Durabond steel, and chain link with privacy slats. Each material has distinct advantages depending on your budget, style preferences, and how much maintenance you want to deal with down the road.
Below is a quick-reference chart so you can see all four options at a glance, followed by a deeper look at each one.
Privacy Fence Comparison: At a Glance
Cost Key: $ = Most Affordable | $$ = Mid-Range | $$$ = Premium
Redwood Privacy Fences
Redwood is the most popular privacy fence material in the Sacramento region, and for good reason. Being located in Northern California gives us access to high-quality redwood lumber at prices that are competitive with—and often better than—cedar or pine from other parts of the country.
- Natural beauty that blends with any landscape style
- Thicker boards (3/4″) compared to the 5/8″ cedar and pine boards many competitors use
- Naturally resistant to rot, decay, and insect damage
- Wide range of styles and price points — from a basic dog ear fence ($) to cap and trim ($$) to board on board or horizontal ($$$)
- Can be stained or sealed to match your home’s aesthetic
- Dog Ear — The classic, affordable standard. Great privacy at the lowest price point.
- Cap and Trim — Clean, contemporary lines with a top cap rail. A step up in curb appeal.
- Board on Board — Overlapping pickets for full privacy with no gaps. The most requested privacy upgrade.
- Horizontal — Modern, architectural look with horizontal boards. Premium style for contemporary homes.
All redwood fence styles provide a high level of privacy. However, within the first couple of weeks after installation, vertical boards will naturally dry and shrink slightly, creating small gaps between pickets.
If full, gap-free privacy is your goal, board on board is the style to choose. The overlapping pickets eliminate any sightlines, even after the wood dries and settles. This is the most popular upgrade for homeowners who want true backyard seclusion.
Vinyl Privacy Fences
Vinyl is one of the most underrated privacy fence options in the Sacramento area. It sits right in the middle on pricing—often less expensive than Durabond steel or the fancier redwood styles—while delivering one of the longest lifespans of any fence material we install.
- Tongue-and-groove design means every picket interlocks with the next. There are virtually zero gaps from day one.
- Will not rot, warp, or splinter — ever. No painting, no staining, no sealing.
- Super clean, uniform appearance that many homeowners love. Available in white and tan.
- Resistant to pests — termites and other insects have no interest in vinyl.
- Premium-grade vinyl from our suppliers holds up against Sacramento’s intense summer heat without cracking or fading.
Best For
Homeowners who want a beautiful, low-maintenance privacy fence at an economical price point. Vinyl is especially popular in HOA communities, around pool areas, and for homeowners who simply do not want to think about fence maintenance again after installation.
Durabond Steel Privacy Fences
Durabond is our premium corrugated steel privacy fence, imported directly from Australia where it has been the most popular residential fence material for decades. We bring it to Sacramento because no other material matches its combination of privacy, durability, fire resistance, and modern style.
What Makes Durabond Different
- Zero gaps. Every component slots into grooved channels and is secured in place. This is the most private fence we install.
- Fire resistant. Steel doesn’t burn. A critical advantage for properties in Auburn, El Dorado Hills, Grass Valley, and other foothill communities in high fire-risk zones.
- COLORBOND coating. A proprietary multi-layer coating over galvanized steel that resists fading, chipping, scratching, rust, and corrosion. Available in three colors: Woodland Grey, Jasper, and Monument.
- Virtually zero maintenance. No painting, no staining, no sealing. Resistant to graffiti and easy to clean.
- Looks the same on both sides. A true good-neighbor fence—no “pretty side” and “ugly side.”
- Twice the strength of standard steel fencing, with no footholds for climbing.
Homeowners who want a modern, sleek look with maximum durability and privacy. Durabond is especially well-suited for properties in wildfire-prone areas of Placer, El Dorado, and Nevada counties, where fire-resistant fencing may also help meet insurance requirements.
Chain Link Fence Repair
Chain link with privacy slats is the workhorse of the privacy fence world. It is an especially strong option for commercial properties, long fence runs, and property owners who want to install a fence one time and never have to worry about it again.
Why Chain Link with Slats Is a Smart Choice
- Extremely durable. Galvanized chain link is one of the longest-lasting fence materials available. It will not rot, warp, or deteriorate.
- Economical for long distances. When you need to cover a large perimeter, chain link with slats offers strong value compared to other materials.
- Customizable privacy levels. Standard Viewguard slats provide good screening. Viewguard PLUS slats include small wings that overlap at the mesh crossings for maximum privacy.
- Available in multiple colors. Privacy slats come in up to 9 colors so you can match the look you want.
- Windscreen option. Vinyl mesh privacy screens can be attached to an existing chain link fence for a budget-friendly privacy upgrade without replacing the fence.
- Excellent wind resistance and performs well on sloped or uneven terrain.
Commercial properties, rental properties, large-lot residential fencing, and any situation where you need a heavy-duty, low-maintenance privacy solution at a competitive price point. This is the install-it-once-and-forget-about-it option.
Don’t Forget the Gate
Every privacy fence needs at least one gate, and the gate is often the hardest-working part of the entire fence. It gets opened and closed daily, it takes the most wear, and it’s the first thing to show problems if it’s not built right.
We build gates to match whatever fence material you choose—redwood, vinyl, Durabond steel, or chain link. For wider openings (driveways, RV access, equipment), we also install slide gates and automated gate systems.
A Note on Front Yard Privacy Fences
Most Sacramento-area cities have fence height ordinances that limit front yard fences to 3–4 feet tall, depending on your jurisdiction. This limits your style and material options in the front yard, but it doesn’t eliminate them.
We can help you find a front yard fence style that maximizes privacy within your local height restrictions. For full ordinance details in your city, visit our fence ordinance quick links page.
