About Fantastic fence
Sacramento’s Trusted Fence & Gate Company Since 2011
Our Story — Fantastic Fence
When Sacramento-area homeowner Dominic Vella hired a couple of fence companies to replace fences at his property, he expected a straightforward experience. What he got instead was a string of unreturned calls, dirty job sites, crews that couldn’t be bothered to show up on time, and an attitude that made him feel like just another transaction. But this was his home — and he needed to trust the people he let onto his property.
That experience lit a fire. Dominic connected with his neighbor, Steve Kempster, who had spent 20 years in the pool safety fencing industry and shared the same belief: that homeowners deserved better. In 2011, the two co-founded Fantastic Fence — a company built from day one around professionalism, trust, and the radical idea that a fence company should actually answer its phone.
In the early days, as a team of two, Dominic and Steve did what most small companies have to do — juggle everything at once. Building fences and taking care of customers, all day, every day. But they knew that wasn’t sustainable if they were going to deliver the experience they had promised themselves they’d create. Within just a few months, they made two pivotal moves: they brought on a dedicated office team member so customers always had a helpful, knowledgeable person to reach — someone who answered the phone and actually followed through — and they hired their first professional installation crew, two craftsmen who had done nothing but install fence for 20 years. The combination was powerful. A seamless customer experience backed by flawless installation. That one-two punch launched the growth trajectory that has defined Fantastic Fence ever since.
Today, Fantastic Fence is the region’s largest LOCAL fence and gate company, with a team of approximately 35 dedicated professionals, three offices, and a growing footprint across Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, Yuba, Yolo, and Nevada counties. The company has earned over 1,000 five-star reviews — not by being the cheapest option, but by being the most trusted one. Background-checked W-2 employees on every job site. Flat pricing with zero hidden fees. A written guarantee that the job isn’t finished until the customer gives the thumbs up.
Steve Kempster, co-founder and one of Fantastic Fence’s most requested estimators, is still by Dominic’s side — a testament to the culture the two have built together. With nearly zero staff turnover, this is a team of people who have chosen to make Fantastic Fence their career. That loyalty flows directly to customers in the form of experienced, familiar faces and consistent, high-quality work.
Dominic — a Grass Valley resident and proud father of three teenage sons — remains deeply involved in the day-to-day life of the company. You’ll find him working alongside crews and customers, guiding company direction, championing new ideas, and making sure every team is performing at its best. He’s as invested in the thousandth job as he was in the first.
Repeat customers and trade contractors keep coming back — not because Fantastic Fence is the biggest name, but because they’ve experienced what a truly professional fence company feels like. Word travels fast when you actually do what you say you’re going to do.
At Fantastic Fence, we live by a simple belief: Your Attitude Is Your Altitude. Fourteen years in, we’re flying higher than ever — and we’re just getting started.
