Commercial chain link is built heavier than residential. Here’s how the specifications differ:
The 1-inch mini mesh deserves special mention. It’s a specialty product with an extremely tight weave that creates what amounts to a coat of armor. Mini mesh is nearly impossible to cut quickly with standard tools, making it the highest-security chain link option available. We install it for evidence rooms, server cages, high-value storage, and anywhere maximum intrusion resistance is required.
Galvanized vs. Vinyl-Coated (Bonded)
One of the advantages of ornamental iron is that it’s built from component parts — panels, posts, and gates — which makes repairs straightforward. You don’t have to replace an entire fence to fix a damaged section. Common iron fence repairs we handle include:
Galvanized (silver)
The standard for most commercial and industrial applications. Functional, proven, and the most cost-effective option for large-footage perimeter projects.
Vinyl-coated (bonded) — black, brown, or green
Used when the business wants a less industrial appearance. Black bonded chain link is the most popular commercial upgrade because it makes the fence far less visually prominent — it blends into the surroundings rather than standing out as a shiny silver barrier. Common for business parks, apartment complexes, fitness clubs, and any property where street-facing appearance matters.
The vinyl coating is an aesthetic upgrade, not a durability upgrade — both finishes last decades. The choice comes down to whether appearance matters for your property and your customers.
Privacy Slats for Commercial Security
The good news is that Sacramento’s climate is actually one of the better environments in the country for ornamental iron. Our long, dry summers mean the fence spends most of the year in low-humidity conditions, which dramatically slows corrosion compared to coastal or high-rainfall areas. That said, there are still a few things to pay attention to:

Privacy slats are best installed at the same time as the fence for the cleanest result, though they can be retrofitted to an existing chain link installation. For businesses, the small additional investment in slats often pays for itself by reducing theft and break-in attempts.
Barbed Wire and Razor Ribbon
For commercial properties that need an additional climbing deterrent, we install barbed wire and razor ribbon on top of chain link fencing. Three strands of barbed wire is the most common configuration and provides an effective deterrent for the vast majority of commercial properties. Razor ribbon (concertina wire) is a step up in security and is typically reserved for high-security industrial, government, or correctional applications.
Note: Barbed wire and razor ribbon are regulated by local ordinances. In most Sacramento-area jurisdictions, they’re permitted on commercial and industrial properties but restricted or prohibited in residential zones. We’ll advise you on what’s allowed for your specific location.
Commercial Gates: Slide vs. Swing and Track Systems
Most commercial properties need at least two gates: a driveway slide gate for vehicle access and a person swing gate for foot traffic. The slide gate is the preferred choice for commercial driveways because it rolls completely out of the way along the fence line when opened, hiding behind the adjacent fence. This means the gate doesn’t obstruct parking spots, storage areas, or loading zones near the opening — a critical advantage on commercial properties where every square foot of usable space matters.
Slide gates can cover very wide openings (20–30 feet or more) with a single gate panel, so you only need to move one gate to open the full driveway. Compare that to a double swing gate, where you’d need to move both panels separately and maintain clear swing space on both sides.
V-Track vs. Front Roll Wheel Systems
If your driveway and gate landing area are both fully on concrete, V-track gives you the cleanest operation — the gate runs perfectly straight and latches precisely. If you’re on asphalt, the concrete mow strip cost can be substantial. And if forklifts or heavy machinery cross the gate path regularly, front roll wheels are the way to go — a V-track in a forklift lane is asking for trouble.
Commercial Chain Link Fence and Gate Repair
Commercial chain link takes more abuse than residential — vehicle impacts, loading dock collisions, attempted break-ins, and heavy daily gate use all take a toll.
