Why Choose Fantastic Fence

Low Maintenance. Long Lasting. Built for Sacramento.

A fence is only as strong as the posts holding it up. When a post leans, snaps, or rots at the base, the panels beside it start to pull and sag — and a small problem quickly becomes a big one. Fantastic Fence has been replacing broken and damaged posts since 2012, on every kind of fence: wood, vinyl, chain link, ornamental iron, and agricultural.

We’ll fix the failed post the right way — not just patch over it — so the rest of your fence keeps standing. We serve homeowners and businesses across Sacramento, Placer, Nevada, Yuba, and El Dorado Counties, including Roseville, Auburn, Folsom, Grass Valley, Elk Grove, Davis, and the surrounding areas.

Signs a Post Needs Attention
  • It leans, wobbles, or moves when you push on it
  • The base is soft, spongy, gray, or crumbles in your hand
  • The panel beside it is starting to sag or pull away

Catch it early.
When one post goes, the neighbors are usually not far behind — and the longer you wait, the more the repair grows.

Repair, Add a Support Post, or Replace?

We don’t push one solution on every fence. Here’s how we think through it on site — and we’ll always walk you through the options before any work begins.

Your Situation
Likely Solution
Why
One or two posts leaning, rest of fence solid
Replace the failed post(s)
Targeted fix keeps cost down and saves the rest of the fence
Post snapped but the panels are still good
Add a support post alongside it
Often faster and cheaper than pulling the old concrete footing
Many posts soft, rotted, or wobbly
Replace posts as a group — consider steel
When several fail, the rest are usually close behind
Whole fence old, gray, and leaning
Talk about full replacement
Post-by-post repairs stop making financial sense

How We Replace a Post the Right Way

Inspect & assess

We check the failed post and the ones around it, then recommend whether to replace, add a support post, or take on a larger section.

Remove the old post & footing

We pull the post and the concrete ball out of the ground — the most time-consuming part, and the step cheaper contractors often skip.

Set the new post

We set the new post over a gravel drainage base at proper depth (generally about one-third of the post in the ground), then reattach the fence. For specifics, see our guide on how deep a replacement post should go.

How Much Does Fence Post Replacement Cost?

Honestly, it depends — mostly on the type of post and how many you need replaced. A big part of every job is the logistics of getting a crew, the right tools, and materials out to your property, and that cost is spread across the work. So the more posts you replace in a single visit, the lower the price per post. Post type, location, site access, and how much old concrete has to come out all factor in too.

Posts Replaced
Estimated Cost Per Post
Why the Per-Post Price Changes
1 post
$400–$600
A single post still requires a full crew trip and setup, so the per-post cost is at its highest
3 or more
$300–$450
The same trip covers more work, so the cost spread across each post drops
8 or more
$285–$350
Best value — fixed logistics are spread across many posts

These are estimated ranges to show how pricing works — not a quote. Your actual price depends on post type, location, site access, and footing removal.

Post Replacement by Fence Type

Wood Fence Posts

The most common call we get. In the Sacramento area, today’s pressure-treated posts tend to rot faster than they did years ago, especially where the wood meets our clay soil. We replace with quality pressure-treated or metal posts — or, when it makes sense, add a support post alongside the existing line rather than pulling the old footing. See our wood fencing and what causes posts to fail.

Chain Link Fence Posts

Chain link is tough, but posts still get hit by vehicles or corrode over time. We replace with galvanized steel posts that resist rust and align cleanly with your existing run. Explore chain link fencing.

Ornamental Iron Fence Posts

Whether it’s a fallen tree, a vehicle, or corrosion, we replace iron posts with sturdy, high-quality posts matched to your fence’s style so the repair blends in. See our ornamental iron fencing.

Vinyl Fence Posts

Even tough vinyl can crack from weather, animals, or impact. We source posts that match your fence’s color and profile for a seamless repair, and use metal-insert posts where extra strength is needed. See vinyl fencing.

Agricultural Fence Posts

On farms and ranches, a failed post can let livestock out or predators in. We replace with durable, weather-resistant posts built for the load. See our agricultural fencing.

Tired of Replacing Posts? Ask About Hidden Steel

If you keep fighting rotting wood posts, our bolt-up hidden steel posts can roughly double the life of your fence. The steel does the structural work underground while your wood fence looks exactly the same above ground — a one-time fix for a recurring problem.

FAQ

Fence Post Replacement FAQs

The questions we hear most — answered the Fantastic Fence way.

How do I know if my fence post needs replacing?

Push on it. If it leans, wobbles, or the base feels soft and crumbles, the post has failed. Other tells are a gray, hollow-sounding base and panels that have started to sag or pull away from the post. If you spot one bad post, check the ones on either side — they often go together. Not sure? We’ll assess it for free.

Can you replace just one post without redoing the whole fence?

In most cases, yes — if the rest of the fence is sound, we replace only the failed post (or add a support post beside it) and reattach the existing panels. That’s the most cost-effective fix and it’s exactly why catching the problem early matters. When many posts have failed, replacing them as a group usually makes more sense.

Should I repair the post or replace it?

As a rule of thumb, acute damage (a storm or a vehicle knocked it over) can sometimes be repaired, while chronic damage — rot or termite damage covering more than about a third of the post — calls for replacement. Patching rotted wood just delays a bigger repair. We’ll give you the straight answer when we look at it.

Why do fence posts rot so fast in the Sacramento area?

Two reasons. Our clay soil holds moisture against the base of the post, and modern pressure-treated lumber doesn’t resist rot the way older formulations did. That combination is why wood posts are almost always the first thing to fail. If you’re tired of the cycle, hidden steel posts can roughly double your fence’s lifespan.

How long does fence post replacement take?

It depends on how many posts need work and the fence type, but we complete most replacement jobs within a day to keep the disruption to a minimum. Pulling the old concrete footing is usually the most time-consuming step.

Do you offer emergency fence post replacement?

Yes. When a downed or broken post is a safety or security concern, our team can move quickly to secure your property. Give your nearest office a call.
