Gate Repair,
Replacement & Installation
Sacramento’s Gate Experts — Residential & Commercial
Serving Sacramento, Roseville, Auburn, El Dorado Hills, Elk Grove & Surrounding Communities
Low Maintenance. Long Lasting. Built for Sacramento.
Gates take more daily abuse than any other part of your fence. They’re opened, closed, leaned on, bumped, and slammed — every single day. When a gate stops working properly, it’s one of the most frustrating problems a homeowner or business owner can deal with.
At Fantastic Fence, gates are one of our specialties. Whether you need a repair, a full replacement, or a brand new installation, we have the experience and the field knowledge to build it right the first time — or fix what someone else got wrong.
Repair. Replace. Install.
No matter what brought you to this page, we can help:
Your gate is sagging, dragging, sticking, or won’t latch. We diagnose the root cause and fix it properly — not just the symptom.
Your gate is beyond repair, or fixing it would cost nearly as much as replacing it. We’ll build a new gate that fits correctly, operates smoothly, and lasts.
You need a gate where there isn’t one — for privacy, security, pet containment, side-yard access, or vehicle entry. We design and install gates that match your fence and serve your specific purpose.
On every gate call, we evaluate the full picture — the gate, the posts, the frame, and the hinges — and give you honest options. Sometimes a targeted repair is all you need. Sometimes replacing the gate and post together is the smarter investment. We’ll show you the difference and let you decide.
Gates We Repair, Replace & Install
We work on gates of every size, material, and configuration — residential and commercial:
Pedestrian gates
The most common residential gate. Typically 3–4 feet wide, located on the side of a house or leading to the backyard. Used for privacy, security, and pet containment.
Driveway swing gates
Single or double swing gates for vehicle access. Best when there’s room for the panels to open and the opening is under roughly 14 feet. Typically the most affordable driveway gate option.
Slide gates
Roll sideways on a track instead of swinging open. Ideal for wide openings, locations near sidewalks, and heavy-use commercial applications. Handles heavier and longer gates without sagging because the weight rides on wheels and track, not posts.
Commercial and security gates
Access-control gates for businesses, warehouses, storage facilities, and apartment complexes.
Agricultural and utility gates
Functional access gates for farms, ranches, and large rural properties.
All gate types can be manual or automated. For automated gate systems, openers, and access control, visit our dedicated Automated Gate pages.
Gate Materials
We repair, replace, and install gates in every material we fence with:
Redwood
— The most common residential gate material in Sacramento. Classic look, customizable, and pairs naturally with redwood fencing.
Ornamental iron
— Elegant, durable, and low-maintenance. Popular for driveway entries and decorative applications.
Chain link
— Affordable and durable for side yards, backyards, commercial, and utility access.
Vinyl
— Low-maintenance option that matches vinyl fencing with a clean, uniform look.
Durabond steel
— Heavy-duty and fire-resistant. Ideal for commercial, agricultural, and fire-prone areas.
How We Build Gates Right — And What We Fix When Others Don’t
After building and repairing thousands of gates across the Sacramento area, we’ve seen every shortcut and construction mistake in the book. This chart shows what we commonly find on gates that have failed — and how we do it differently.
Every gate we build follows these principles: redwood, cedar, or welded steel frames only (never pressure-treated). Hidden steel gate posts on every replacement. Properly sized frames and hardware for the gate’s width and weight. This is why our gates work the first time and every time — and why we’re often called to fix gates that other companies built.
Repair or Replace? We Help You Decide.
Not every broken gate needs to be replaced. And not every repair is worth doing.
When we evaluate a gate, we look at the whole system — the gate door, the frame, the posts, the hinges, and the hardware. We’ll tell you honestly:
- If a repair will solve the problem long-term, we’ll do it right and stand behind it.
- If the post is the real problem, we’ll often recommend replacing both the post and gate together — the cost difference is usually minimal, and you get everything aligned, warrantied, and built to last.
- If the gate was poorly built or beyond repair, we’ll explain why and build you one that actually works.
We give you options and explain the trade-offs. No pressure, no upselling — just honest guidance from a team that’s built and repaired thousands of gates.
Vehicle, Tree & Equipment Damage
We regularly repair and replace gates damaged by vehicle impacts, falling trees, and equipment like forklifts and trailers. This is especially common on commercial properties, apartment complexes, and homes with driveway gates.
Impact damage often affects more than just the gate door — the posts, hinges, and track systems can all be compromised. We evaluate the full scope and provide a complete repair or replacement plan. We also provide detailed written estimates for insurance claims.

Frequently Asked Questions About Gates
Can you fix a sagging gate?
In most cases, yes. Sagging is usually caused by a rotting post, an undersized frame, or a gate that’s too long for its frame. We diagnose the root cause and determine whether a repair or replacement is the better long-term solution.
My gate was built by someone else and never worked right. Can you help?
This is one of the most common calls we get. If the gate was built with the wrong frame material, undersized posts, or improper sizing, the fix is usually rebuilding the gate correctly. We’ll show you exactly what went wrong and what the right solution looks like.
How wide can a wood gate be on a wood frame?
Wood gate doors should ideally be no longer than 4 feet on a standard wood frame. Up to 5 feet is the absolute maximum. Anything wider than 5 feet should be built on a welded steel frame to prevent sagging. This is one of the most common construction mistakes we correct.
Why don’t you use pressure-treated wood for gate frames?
Pressure-treated lumber twists and bows as it dries. When a gate frame warps, the gate goes out of square, the hinges misalign, and the latch stops catching. We build gate frames from redwood, cedar, or welded steel — materials that stay stable over time.
Do you repair gates damaged by vehicles?
Yes. Vehicle and equipment impact damage is one of the most common gate repairs we handle, especially on commercial properties. We evaluate the full scope of the damage and provide a complete repair or replacement plan, including written estimates for insurance claims.
Should I repair just the gate, or replace the post too?
When the post is the root cause of the gate failure, we usually recommend replacing both together. The cost difference is often minimal, and replacing both ensures proper alignment, a full warranty, and a solution that actually lasts.
Do you install automated gates?
Yes. We install and repair automated swing and slide gate systems. For details on automated gate openers, access control, and related services, visit our dedicated Automated Gate pages linked below.
