Fantastic Fence sent out Martin and Joel this week to replace 95' of fence. The job they did was beyond expectation. They were professional and took extremely good care of all the flowers and other items they had to work around. When they finished, they cleaned the area better than before. Most definitely will be calling them soon to replace the other side of the property.

Fantastic Fence did an awesome job replacing our fence. The crew was professional, showed up when they said they would, worked efficiently, and the finished product looks great. We had a somewhat challenging area around our pool with slopes, landscaping, rocks, and some tight spaces, and they did a really nice job working around everything and getting the fence installed cleanly. The workmanship and attention to detail were excellent, and everything feels solid and well built. If you’re looking for a fence contractor in the Rocklin/Roseville area for a wood fence, redwood fence, fence replacement, or fence installation, I’d definitely recommend Fantastic Fence. Great experience from start to finish and very happy with how it turned out. Highly recommend Fantastic Fence!

Fantastic Fence did a superb job repairing damages to sections of our redwood fence caused when a large tree fell during the heavy rainstorms this Spring and uprooted the foundations. The company that installed this fence many years ago is out of business but my wife followed the "Kangroo logo" on the Fantastic Fence trucks doing another downed fence repair in our neighborhood. Cody and Jesus did an expert job for us and our next door neighbor with whom we share this large stretch of fencing. The really Fantastic part of this company is the attitude and attention to detail of this company's crew. They worked with us and kept us closely informed until the job was "done well" ... including clean up. Excellent work start to finish at a fair price. Check out this local contractor for fence designs and installations or smaller repair jobs. We're glad we did! They know about fences.

I needed 2 new gates put on our fence. Surprisingly this was apparently difficult for some fence contractors to do, as we got ghosted multiple times. Fantastic fence actually followed through, got us a quote and put us on their calendar. The installers came out and fixed everything up and now I have two wonderful, sturdy gates.

We had Fantastic Fence install an RV gate and a single gate opening, and we’re very happy with the results. We’ve replaced our gates several times over the years, but this one is solidly built with steel posts, new wood and hinges and feels and looks like it will be the last one we need for a long time to come. The crew was professional, respectful of our property, and came prepared with everything they needed. The two man crew was extremely professional from start to finish. They wore company- branded shirts, arrived in a clearly marked company truck, and came fully stocked with the tools and parts needed to complete the job. They respected our property and kept the work area clean and organized. They were a little behind the original start time, but kept us updated by text, made up the time, and finished on schedule. We work from home, so we really appreciated how considerate they were about keeping the noise down. After the installation the entire area was cleaned up and all the old gate was taken away. They worked through a very hot weather day and did a great job when all was said and done. Great workmanship, great communication, and a professional crew. We highly recommend Fantastic Fence!

It was a bit of a rocky start with communication delays, but the final results were totally worth it!!! The installation Foreman was top notch!! There was, what could have been a less favorable outcome, but he brought it to our attention and we were able to collectively resolve it to 100% satisfaction!! The rest of the crew maintained his level of excellence when he left for another job. I really, really appreciated their attentiveness and checking in whenever there was the slightest option to review. I had at least 4 other fence companies bid our job and every one of them revoked their initial quote saying they couldn't get the materials that I wanted (vinyl porch fence) or coming back with a higher bid and/or unwanted material options. I got EXACTLY what I wanted and I LOVE it!!!

Fantastic Fence completed a fence repair that included reinforcing a retaining wall and did an excellent job. The new fence and gate are sturdy (steel posts were used) and secure. The repairmen were on time, respectful of our property and cleaned up afterward. The office was responsive to our requests and there was no pressure. Very pleased with their work.

Fencing Solutions We Provide in North Highlands

Whatever you need built, fixed, or torn out and replaced, we do it with our own crews, and we match the material to your fencing needs rather than to whatever happens to be on the truck. These are the fencing solutions North Highlands property owners ask us for most, and you can see every one of our fencing options on our fencing services page.

Wood Fencing and Good Neighbor Fence Construction

Wood fencing gives you natural warmth and real privacy, which is why it’s still the default backyard fence across North Highlands. We build with premium materials like rot-resistant redwood and cedar, and we set posts deeply in concrete footings, because material quality and fence construction method are what decide whether a fence lasts eight years or twenty. If you’re matching an existing shared run, we’ll match it. Wood fencing stays affordable, it’s endlessly customizable, and on a level tract lot it’s often the ideal fencing solution when the layout is done right the first time.

Vinyl Fences Built for Sacramento-Area Sun

Vinyl fences are the low-maintenance answer: no repainting, no restaining, no rot, no pests. Vinyl holds its color through long dry North Highlands summers, which keeps your curb appeal intact where thinner panels chalk and fade. Ask any fence company you’re considering whether their vinyl is high-grade and UV-inhibited, because that single spec separates a fence that still looks new in ten years from one that doesn’t. Ours is, and vinyl fences stay affordable across their service life because you never buy stain again.

Ornamental Iron Fences and Aluminum Fencing

Ornamental iron fences are elegant and durable, and they keep your sightlines open, which matters in a front yard where Sacramento County allows open ornamental fencing taller than solid fencing. The black silhouette of iron pickets against a light stucco wall has a timeless beauty that doesn’t date. Aluminum fencing is the lightweight, rust-resistant alternative, and it’s a common pick for sloped yards because the panels rack to grade instead of stair-stepping. We specify powder coated and galvanized finishes on iron fences so the metal holds up through wet winters. Both give you security at the property line without walling off the view.

Chain Link Fence Installation for Homes, Acreage, and Commercial Property

A chain link fence gives you security without blocking visibility, and chain link is still the most affordable way to enclose a lot of ground. We see it constantly on large properties around North Highlands and along the Watt Avenue and Elkhorn Boulevard commercial corridors. We use galvanized or powder-coated steel so the fabric resists rust, and we can add privacy slats or vinyl coating where you want the look softened. Chain link also goes up fast, so we can finish the job quickly when a yard or a work site needs to be secure this month.

Durabond Steel and Bolt-Up Hidden Steel Posts

Durabond steel is our high-security fence option: sleek, strong, and essentially immune to the rot that takes out wood posts first. Bolt-Up Hidden Steel Posts give you the look of a clean wood fence with steel doing the structural work underneath, hidden from view. If you’ve already paid to replace failed wood posts once on an older North Highlands property, this is the upgrade worth asking our estimator about.

Pool Fencing and Pool Safety Barriers

A pool safety fence exists to do one job, and keeping a child or a pet away from the water unsupervised is the top priority every time. We install pool fencing with self-closing, self-latching gates, in mesh, ornamental iron, or aluminum fencing depending on your yard. Pool barrier requirements change and are enforced locally, so we confirm the current rules that apply to your North Highlands property before we quote, rather than guessing from a web page. Pool safety fencing is also where our co-founder spent two decades before this company existed.

Custom Gates, Gate Openers, and Automated Access

Custom gates improve access and security at the same time. Gate installation is everyday work for us: walk gates and drive gates built and hung, then automated with residential and commercial gate openers, keypads, loop sensors, solar powered gate openers, and automated slide or swing systems. We also repair and maintain gate openers we didn’t install. If your existing gate drags, sags, or won’t latch in winter, that’s usually a hinge, post, or frame issue we can fix affordably instead of replacing the whole fence line.

Fence Repair, Post Replacement, and Retaining Walls

We repair as readily as we replace, because not every piece of fence work needs to be a teardown. Leaning panels, snapped or rotted fence posts, sagging gates, wind and storm damage, and aging sections all get evaluated honestly, and sometimes the right answer is a few posts rather than a whole new fence. We also build retaining walls. One thing worth knowing up front: a fence constructed on top of or into a retaining wall requires a Sacramento County building permit, and we’ll tell you that before you commit.

Commercial Fencing and Dumpster Enclosures

For property managers and business owners, our commercial fencing work covers commercial iron fence, commercial chain link fence, corrugated metal fence, dumpster enclosures, access gates, and fence post replacement, plus commercial fence and gate repair. You get the same background-checked W-2 employees, the same flat pricing with zero hidden fees, and a written scope that spells out what gets done. Our crews work around tenants, trucks, and business hours without leaving a site unsecured overnight. Commercial fencing along Watt Avenue and Elkhorn Boulevard is routine work for us, and the same crews handle commercial accounts in Citrus Heights, Rancho Cordova, and Elk Grove.

Why North Highlands Property Owners Choose Our Fence Company

Why Pool Safety Barriers Matter
Because we answer the phone, quote a flat price in writing, send background-checked W-2 employees, and don’t call the job done until you do. Great service isn’t complicated, and reliable service is the whole reason this locally owned company exists.

That sounds basic. It isn’t, and we know it isn’t, because this company exists specifically because of how badly it usually goes. In 2011, Dominic Vella hired a couple of fence companies for his own property and got unreturned calls, dirty job sites, and crews that couldn’t be bothered to show up on time. He started Fantastic Fence with Steve Kempster, who brought 20 years of pool safety fencing experience, on the simple idea that a fence company should pick up, show up, clean up, and charge fairly.

Fourteen years later we’re the region’s largest local fence and gate company: approximately 35 professionals across three offices in Rocklin, Sacramento, and Elk Grove, with over 1,000 five-star reviews from satisfied customers. Steve still works as one of our most-requested estimators, so there’s a reasonable chance a founder measures your yard.

Quality Workmanship Backed by Credentials You Can Verify

Quality workmanship is easy to claim and harder to prove, so start with paperwork. CSLB License #979657. Licensed, bonded, and insured, with liability and workers’ compensation coverage. BBB accredited, and proud members of the business community we’ve worked in since 2011. Before you hire any of the fence contractors bidding your North Highlands fence project, verify the C-13 license is current, ask for proof of insurance, read independent reviews, and ask what warranty covers both materials and labor. We’d rather you check than take our word for it.

The same faces, year after year. Our installers are highly trained W-2 employees rather than day labor, and turnover here is close to nothing, so the professional team that arrives already knows our standards. Excellent customer service starts with an office that picks up and ends with a crew that treats your yard like somebody’s home.

The estimate is the contract. Our written estimate itemizes every cost: removal and haul-away of the old fence, materials, posts, gates, hardware, and who is responsible for any permit. Flat pricing, zero hidden fees. No surprise line item on the final invoice.

We’re guests on your property. After every fencing job we conduct a thorough clean-up and leave your yard the way we found it, minus the old fence. Crews introduce themselves. Gates get closed behind them if you have a dog.

On price, we’ll be straight with you: we aren’t the cheapest fence company you’ll call, though our competitive prices come with nothing hidden behind them. We’ve rebuilt enough work done by the lowest bidder to know that quality work costs less over the life of the fence, and a well-built fence can return as much as 20% in added property value. Financing is available for Sacramento-region residents if the timing is the hard part.

Ready for it in writing? Get a free fence estimate and see the flat price before you decide anything.

A Stress Free Fence Installation Process, Start to Finish

Four steps, no mystery. We’ve run this enough times to make it a seamless experience on your end.

  • 1. Call or book online. Someone in our office picks up, asks what’s going on with your fence, and gets you on the schedule for a free estimate. No voicemail maze, no waiting three days for a callback. If you’d rather book at midnight, the online scheduler works too.
  • 2. Free on-site estimate. We measure the run, check gate access and where your property line sits, look at what’s salvageable, and talk through fence repair versus full replacement. You get a written scope and a flat price covering removal, materials, posts, gates, haul-away, and permit responsibility, so you can settle on the right fence before anything is signed.
  • 3. Schedule and build. We call 811 for Underground Service Alert utility marking before work begins. Professional installation is handled by background-checked W-2 employees working to Cal/OSHA-conscious site practices, and we finish in a timely manner without rushing the details. California also limits home improvement down payments to 10% of the contract price or $1,000, whichever is less, and we work within that.
  • 4. Walkthrough and clean-up. We walk the finished fence with you, adjust gate latches, and do a thorough clean-up. Our written guarantee means the final check mark belongs to you, not to us, and the warranty on materials and workmanship is spelled out rather than implied.

North Highlands Permits, Neighborhoods, and Conditions We Plan Around

Professional Gate Latch Installation vs. DIY
Sacramento County Handles Permits for North Highlands Fences

North Highlands is a census-designated place, not an incorporated city, so there is no North Highlands city hall issuing fence permits. Sacramento County governs fence permitting and zoning here. The Building Permits & Inspection Division lists public counters at 9700 Goethe Road, Suite A, and at 827 7th Street, Room 102.

The County generally exempts fences not over seven feet from a building permit, and requires a building permit for fences over seven feet, including wood fencing, wrought iron, chain link, and vinyl. A fence built on top of or into a retaining wall also requires a permit. Properties inside a Neighborhood Preservation Area or Special Planning Area can have fence allowances different from the general county rules, which is why we confirm your parcel’s situation rather than assume.

Front-Yard Height Limits and the Town Center Rule

Front yards are where most North Highlands fence plans run into trouble. In Sacramento County residential front yards, solid fences are generally limited to three feet, chain link and similar semi-open fencing to four feet, and open ornamental fencing to seven feet. Side-street yards on corner lots are generally allowed up to seven feet.

There’s a local layer on top of that. Inside the North Highlands Town Center Special Planning Area, centered around Watt Avenue and Freedom Park Drive, residential front-yard fences should not exceed four feet and must be at least 50% transparent, which pushes most designs toward iron fences or aluminum fencing rather than solid wood. That rule catches people out, and most pages you’ll read never mention it. We check whether your address falls inside the SPA before we design the fence, not after it’s standing.

Postwar Tracts, Shared Fence Lines, and Neighbor Agreements

Much of North Highlands is postwar tract housing. The Elkhorn Boulevard, Walerga Road, and Don Julio Boulevard area contains an early-1950s tract that Caltrans uses as a textbook example of postwar tract development, and that housing age is exactly why so much of our local work is repair of damaged or aging fences and good neighbor fence replacement rather than new construction.

Those lots also mean shared boundary lines. Sacramento County leaves it to adjoining owners to decide whether to build and maintain a shared fence, so settle four things with your neighbor first: exact location on the line, material, which side gets the finished face, and how the cost is split. Our estimator is happy to meet both households at once, whether you’re off Elkhorn or over near Larchmont Park or Freedom Park. A fence that defines the boundary cleanly prevents a lot of conversations later.

Summer Heat, Winter Rain, and Drainage Near I Street and 32nd Street

North Highlands fences live through months of hot, dry sun and then months of saturated winter ground, and that cycle is what loosens posts and splits boards. It’s the reason we push UV-inhibited vinyl fences for buyers who want low maintenance, rot-resistant species for wood fencing, and footings sized for the gate loads they’ll actually carry. Fence construction method matters as much as material for how long any of it lasts.

Drainage deserves specific attention on the west side of the community. The I Street and 32nd Street area sits in the Robla Creek watershed and has had localized drainage problems that Sacramento County addressed with a storm-drain project. Near there, we trace water paths and check recorded easements before we set a single post.

Served From Our Sacramento Office on the Watt Avenue Corridor

North Highlands is served from our Sacramento office at 3626 Fair Oaks Boulevard, Suite 126, in the Arden-Arcade area near the Fair Oaks Boulevard and Watt Avenue intersection. Watt is the same corridor that runs north into the community, which makes this a short, familiar run for our crews, and we cover the entire area from Elkhorn Boulevard south without a surcharge for the drive. Our Rocklin and Elk Grove offices round out coverage across Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, Yuba, Yolo, and Nevada counties, including Citrus Heights and Rancho Cordova just east of here. You’re calling a local fence company with a staffed office, not a national call center routing your job to whoever bid lowest.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a new fence cost in North Highlands?

It depends on linear footage, material, how many gates you need, and whether the old fence has to come out, which is why we measure first and then quote one flat price in writing. Use our Fence Price Calculator for early budgeting, then book a free estimate for the real number. A proper written estimate itemizes every cost, and California limits home improvement down payments to 10% of the contract price or $1,000, whichever is less.

Do I need a permit for a six-foot fence in North Highlands?

Generally no. Sacramento County exempts fences not over seven feet from a building permit, and because North Highlands is unincorporated, the County is the authority. Zoning height rules still apply, especially in front yards and inside the Town Center SPA, and anything over seven feet does require a building permit. We tell you which applies to your property before work starts.

Can you repair my fence instead of replacing the whole thing?

Often, yes. Post replacement, panel and rail repair, and gate repair are core services, not afterthoughts. On an older North Highlands tract fence our estimator will tell you honestly when a repair buys you years and when you’d be putting good money into a run that’s already going.

How do I know your fence contractors are licensed and insured?

We hold CSLB License #979657, we’re licensed, bonded, and insured, and our installers are background-checked W-2 employees rather than day labor. To verify us or anyone else, look up the license number on the Contractors State License Board site and confirm the C-13 fencing classification is active, ask for current liability and workers’ compensation certificates, read independent reviews, and ask what the warranty covers on both materials and labor.

Do you serve Elk Grove, Citrus Heights, and Rancho Cordova too?

Yes. We build fantastic fences all over the Sacramento area, with offices in Rocklin, Sacramento, and Elk Grove covering Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, Yuba, Yolo, and Nevada counties. If you searched for a fencing company near me from Citrus Heights, Rancho Cordova, Elk Grove, or a neighboring community and landed here, we most likely cover you. Call and ask; we’ll tell you straight if an address falls outside our footprint.

What fence material holds up best through North Highlands summers?

It depends on what you’re optimizing for. Rot-resistant wood fencing gives you natural warmth and privacy at an affordable price. Vinyl fences resist rot, pests, and fading with almost no maintenance. Powder coated iron fences and lightweight aluminum fencing give you longevity with open sightlines, and a chain link fence covers the most ground for the least money.

Ready for a Fence You’ll Actually Love? Let’s Talk.

Three things take the risk out of this decision: a free estimate in writing, flat pricing with zero hidden fees, and a written guarantee that the job isn’t finished until you give the thumbs up. Financing is available for Sacramento-region residents if that helps the timing.
